Why Not? Grown Men Take The Funnies, Right?

I read this quote last night by Barbara Kingsolver: “It’s completely usual for me to get up in the morning, take a look around, and laugh out loud.” ….and I thought to myself, wouldn’t that be nice to wake up laughing like that? Kind of a bit wistful and even more a little disbelieving.

Then last night, at about 3 am, I guess my son had to go the bathroom and simultaneously felt the need to come into our bathroom (not the one closer to his bedroom) and bring his whole collection of helium balloons with him.

We had given them to him on the first day of school and there were probably a dozen over-sized balloons on rainbow ribbons. I have no idea why he felt that need, it woke us up with all the bouncing around and bumping of balloons, I was so exhausted and so annoyed.

But then I woke up this morning and remembered all the balloon-bonking and loud ricocheting and I could not stop laughing with my husband. I kept visualizing him in the dark clutching that bouquet and trying to go the bathroom.

What six year old boy doesn’t want to bring all of his helium balloons, to the bathroom, in the middle of the night, I guess? Right?

For now I am just so happy to wake up laughing.

That is so funny. It seems to me that it is often the 'annoying' kid behaviours that I might miss the most when my kids are grown and gone: my son's loud guitar or his teasing his little sister; my five year old's emotional 'breakdowns' when she mournfully says things like, "I'm just feeling so exhausted or confused or embarassed"...whatever it might be at that moment; my 10 yr old's super jumbo crafting messes which do result in some pretty cool creations... The very things that make me feel frustrated in the heat of the moment are some of the best moments of sharing life with my children.

Kika - I think about that all the time! I hear mothers say that they miss the noise and the chaos and the little everyday stuff the most... exactly what you describe.

("The very things that make me feel frustrated in the heat of the moment are some of the best moments of sharing life with my children. " - I love how you said that.)

And that is exactly why I try to capture these moments and remember them - kind of like a mama squirrel hoarding my own little nuts for my empty nest winter.

Aww :( Did you take your last post down or is Blogger throwing fits again?

Well, I'm not sure why the link I gave you didn't work (I tried it and it didn't really work for me either)
Try this - go to saucynsweet.blogspot.com then scroll down to "Flavors" and select Soups/Stews. That was the link I tried to share ;) It's just a little collection of some recipes I've tried and loved!
