A Few Things

I absolutely love this quote:

"There are human chimeras, too. It has just been discovered that women carry fetal cells from all the babies they have carried. Crossing the defensive boundaries of our immune system and mixing with our own cells, the fetal cells circulate in the mother's bloodstream for decades after each birth. The body does not tolerate foreign cells, which trigger illness and rejection. But a mother's body incorporates into her own the cells of her children as if they recognize each other, belong to each other. This fantastic melding of two selves, mother and child, is called human microchimerism. ~ "Without a Map" by Meredith Hall

As of tomorrow I will only have had one day in three weeks without fighting these headaches. I am trying a new prescription tonight. I miss running and sleeping and not being squinty eyed. I feel MIA. And I had a dentist appointment this morning with good news and bad news. Elch.

We are making some big family decisions that have to be made by April 29th. I have no idea if that is tied to the headaches or not.

We are hosting a group of really special people on Sunday for Easter. Eight adults and nine kids. And one baby-in-belly. I think that officially means the adults are outnumbered! If there is no sun, my square footage shrinks by the measurement of my yard. I am praying for sun!

I have a boy turning eight on Saturday. When given the option of choosing what kind of birthday party he wanted  it went like this: Could he have a mushroom hunt party? (Wrong time of year.) Could he have a nursery party? (I was stumped on that one... finally we figured out he meant going to a garden nursery and buying plants to plant with all his friends.) We finally landed on an art party.

But it turned into an Art and Animal Party. Of course. I think they are his two most favourite things in all the world.  He has picked out the favours for his buddies and wrapped them all himself. He wrote his own invitations this year. Plus he picked out his own Easter clothes last week - he wanted to be the-boy's-word-for-fancy. He just lost another tooth and grew three inches. I had a flash last night at the table imagining him in five years. I got a big hiccup in my heart.

He's one of my most favourite things in all the world.

I'm on a big Wendell Berry kick right now (he's so incredibly soothing, thought-provoking and peaceful) and I am doing an amazing study that is switching up the narrative in my head (two studies, actually.) It's really beautiful. I am also loving Kristin Armstrong's new book.

I love this quote, too:

"If you want something you've never had before, you've got to do something you've never done before." ~ Drina Reed

I'm not entirely sure how that looks like in my life yet. But I am thinking a lot about it.

And goodness, I can't even believe how grown-up Luke is! How is it even possible? It is still my dream that he + Audrey fall in love someday :)

Wouldn't you know it: you love Wendell Berry and ranunculus. Me too! I tried to grow some from bulbs...they failed, but I did manage to eek out my own peonines--here in the desert. I was just a little thrilled.
Sorry about the headaches. You have a share in Christ's suffering this Lent. Some small comfort. xo

That quote is amazing - I feel the truth of carrying each of my children in my heart for eternity; I did not realize it could be a physical reality!
I wish you a deep sense of the rock-solid reality of the Everlasting Arms for birthdays and Easter and big decisions, AND headaches.

Corli - Me, too! Doesn't it make something you already just know, finally make sense??

(And thank you - Happy Birthdays to you all, too! : ) )

Amanda - I can't choose a favourite! I haven't read that one yet, though. (So now I have to.)

I am reading my first W Berry book right now and loving it. As we have just become farmers ourselves, it is wonderful to read the wisdom of one further down this path.
visiting via study in brown after a long time away. glad to have found you again.
